There are already the offenses of harassment and sexual violence. The offense of sexist contempt announced by Emmanuel Macron this Saturday, November 25 is a great first. The objective is to fight against street harassment.
Street harassment, it is on the web that women talk about it best, when they imitate men. Parodies are multiplying: they have freed speech. Examples that make you laugh, but that women know too well. “Most of the time we put our heads down and keep going”, testifies a woman. The street is sometimes hostile territory. Emmanuel Macron hopes to pacify him with a new offense for sexist outrage. An offense that must be noted by a police officer and immediately punished by a dissuasive fine.
“It will be hard to identify if ever the police are not trained in this identification of harassment. There will also be a definition work to do which is very important”, explains Clara G., co-initiator of #SoieauRDV against violence against women. For this work to be successful, feminist associations are calling for more resources so that speech in the street is calmed down for both women and men.
