For a long time, Jacques Martin was one of the emblematic figures of television. 15 years after his disappearance, his private life continues to intrigue his admirers. This Wednesday, May 4, 2022, viewers of Paris Premiere were able to discover the documentary “Jacques Martin: behind your applause” which was dedicated to him. The star was marked by her childhood which was not the most peaceful…
The happy father of 8 children suffered from the repeated absences of his parents. He will flourish, moreover, not without difficulty in a boarding school. “I was put in boarding school in 1939, I was a little over 5 years old and I must say that these are years of prison. Me, the concentration camp universe, I knew it as a child, I know what that’s…”, analyzed – in the past – Jacques Martin. To make matters worse, the death of his parent will greatly disturb him. Obviously, the duo never managed to understand each other. “There have never been real dialogues”, underlined the voice-over of the report.
“He swallows everything he finds…”
On a daily basis, Jacques Martin’s father constantly fought against his own demons: “This man has not recovered from the atrocities experienced during the 1914 war”. Traumatized, the latter lived – thereafter – a terrible descent into hell. “Since he came back from this hell, he drinks without limits. And when he no longer has enough to buy alcohol, he swallows everything he finds”, we learn.
Danièle Evenou who shared the life of Jacques Martin gave other details about him: “His dad died an alcoholic, drinking eau de toilette, perfumes… He was unhappy”. His fate would have been “a terrible shock” for her ex-husband.
In the process, his mother Germaine Ducerf also remarried and gave birth to another son. “He waited I think for years for his mother to say to him: ‘I love you'”, admitted Daniele Evenou. A point of view shared by the famous lyricist Frédéric Zeitoun: “I think the key to Jacques Martin is his childhood. This man had an abused childhood…”
