There is the tail side: the image ofa gathered and smiling left, communists, socialists, ecologists united behind the Insoumis, who have become THE main force of the French left. The hope for each of the traditional parties to have a group in the assembly. For the Insoumis, the ambition to install Jean-Luc Melenchon at Matignon in June in the absence of having propelled it to the Elysée in April.
Finally the assurance, for the four left-wing parties of bring some money into the coffers, since the financing of political life is essentially calculated according to the results of the legislative elections. Basically, each vote collected by a candidate brings about 1.50 euros to the party that invested this candidate.
The PC present in the two departments
But in any agreement, there is also the face side: the salty addition for the traditional parties of the left, asked to fade in many places. Only two constituencies left to the Communists and not the simplest: the 7th in Loire-Atlantique (Guérande-la Baule) and the 4th in Vendée (Les Herbiers-Montaigu) which are clearly bastions of the right.
Three constituencies left to ecologists in Vendée and Loire-Atlantique
EELV will have to settle for three constituencies : the 1st of Vendée where Regional Councilor Lucie Etonno will be in contention and two in Loire-Atlantique, the 6th (Chateaubriand-Blain) and the 4th (Nantes-Rezé) on which could migrate Julie Laernoes from Nantesleader of the ecologists on the Nantes municipal council (initially approached for another Nantes constituency).
The socialist party wiped off the map in Vendée and present in a single constituency in Loire-Atlantique.
Finally the Socialist Party is an arithmetic poor relation : “70 constituencies in all in the national plan including the 30 outgoing deputies reinvested. There were only 40 places left to be allocated in France. Explain Nantes regional councilor Christophe Clergeau, who participated in the national negotiations with the Insoumis. Assessment: no constituency in Vendée and only one in Loire-Atlantique : the 1st constituency (Nantes Orvault) a constituency where the outgoing Macronist François de Rugy does not stand for re-election and on which the PS had positioned an early activist who had never taken the step of seeking a mandate Karim Benbrahim. Will he be forced to give way to a more capped personality such as Karine Daniel Where Gildas Salun asked to disappear in the neighboring constituencies?
Margot Medkour sacrificed among the Insoumis
Elsewhere, that is to say in six out of ten constituencies in Loire-Atlantique and in three out of five Vendée constituencies, it is the Insoumis who will defend the colors of the left. It remains to be seen whether all the initial candidates asked to withdraw will play the game or go into battle anyway without support from their party.
On the 8th of Loire-Atlantique for example, Xavier Perrin PS deputy to the mayor of Saint Nazaire has already announced that it will not comply with a national agreement. He should therefore dissent against the official candidate who is close to Jean-Luc Mélenchon, regional councilor Matthias Tavel.
On the 1st constituency (Nantes-Orvault) reserved for the PS, it is the leader of “Nantes in common” Margot Medkour, candidate for mayor of Nantes in 2020, who was expected to represent the Insoumis. Will she comply with the agreement? Or will she regain her freedom? For now, she alone has the answer.
