Imminent dissolution of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, election June 2

Ontario Premier Doug Ford will meet Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Dowdeswell on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. to ask her to dissolve the Legislative Assembly to make way for the official launch of the provincial election campaign.

This should start this Wednesday; the elections will take place in less than a month, on June 2.

Politicians have already been campaigning unofficially for several weeks, with two of the three main provincial political parties having already released their platforms.

Opinion polls released so far suggest that the Progressive Conservative Party could be re-elected and that the Liberal Party could dislodge the New Democratic Party (NDP) to form the Official Opposition at Queen’s Park.

Although voting is scheduled to take place on June 2, Elections Ontario is encouraging citizens to vote in advance or through other available means to reduce crowds at polling stations as the COVID-19 pandemic is not over.
