An experiment has been tested for a few months in Brittany to fight against medical deserts. For some common diseases, it is possible to consult a pharmacy.

In his pharmacy in Rieux (Ille-et-Vilaine), Didier Roche, pharmacist, can now treat the little sores of everyday life. Heartburn, headaches or urinary tract infections, a total of 13 symptoms can be treated. Patients can benefit from an interview, followed by advice from the pharmacist. “At the end of the interview, we give the patient a report, and we will call him, depending on the case, either three days later or five days later.“, details the pharmacist.

The city of Rieux has 2,900 inhabitants, for a single doctor. Here, the device seduces. “It’s good, it will unclog the emergency room“, says a woman. The pharmacy receives 15 euros per treatment. Didier Roche benefited from a day of training, with a doctor. Like him, 50 Breton pharmacists are testing the device. Nearly 400 patients have already been triaged in six months. The experiment should last two years, and should be schooled in the rest of France.
