Chris Kreider and Adam Fox hit the target in the first period while K’Andre Miller and Ryan Strome hit the mark in a 30-second interval in the second period.

With the Rangers leading 4-0 after two periods, the Panthers got underway in the third frame. Eetu Luostarinen, Sam Reinhart and Patric Hornqvist took turns to close the gap.

The Panthers pulled goaltender Spencer Knight in an attempt to force an overtime, but Shesterkin closed the door.

The Florida troop suffered a first setback in regulation this season. She had suffered only one loss in her first 11 games (10-0-1), on October 30 against the Boston Bruins.

The Rangers got their act together after suffering two tough setbacks in Alberta. They show a 2-1-1 record at Madison Square Garden.
