Emmanuel Macron is on all fronts. This Sunday, May 1, 2022, the Head of State wanted to participate in the Lily of the Valley ceremony organized at the Élysée. On this very special day, a handful of horticulturists were able to offer a few sprigs to the President of the Republic. As a reminder in 2021, the event took place in a small committee due to the pandemic.
Two years earlier, Stéphane Layani, a key figure at the Rungis market, thanked Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron for having perpetuated “this tradition” which still dates from the Renaissance. To mark the occasion, the ex-Minister of the Economy always wanted to do things big… Not to change! Thus, Rungis products are honored and the best workers in France and apprentices also get their hands dirty. The atmosphere is festive.
“It’s a tradition to put the lily of the valley back…”
Of course, ministers, wholesalers, but also representatives of interprofessional federations, to name but a few, are also invited to the Élysée. The opportunity for Emmanuel Macron’s guests to taste countless dishes in a dream setting.
“VSIt’s a tradition to put thrush back and it’s good, in times when things change, that the traditions which have a meaning, a symbol, are held. Either way, I’m sticking with it.” explained the main interested party. But this year, a terrible tragedy upset the plans of the Macron couple.
As pointed out Gala, the First Lady will not be present today. The cause ? Gérard Boulogne, the husband of his older sister died this weekend. A brutal disappearance that has certainly shaken his whole clan. Being very close to her family, Brigitte Macron therefore wanted to gather with her family out of sight. The ex-teacher would have gone to Amiens, her hometown where some of her relatives still live.
