11:40 a.m. : The May Day demonstration began in several cities in France, notably in Marseille, where several thousand people marched in the Old Port. Unsurprisingly, a week after his re-election, Emmanuel Macron is the target of many signs.

11:22 : Not far from there, a little earlier, the mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo laid flowers in front of the plaque which pays tribute to Brahim Bouraam, a young Moroccan who died drowned on May 1, 1995 after being thrown into the Seine by an activist of the extreme right, on the sidelines of the National Front parade in homage to Joan of Arc.
11:25 a.m. : It was not Marine Le Pen, on the other hand, who laid a wreath in front of the statue of Joan of Arc in Paris, but the interim president of the National Rally, Jordan Bardella. It’s a party tradition on May Day.

11:20 a.m. : Marine Le Pen speaks for the first time since her defeat in the second round of the presidential election, on Twitter, on the occasion of May 1st. She evokes in a video message the legislative elections: “With a maximum of MPs supporting me in Parliament, I will be able to protect your purchasing power and bring measures that finally recognize the work at its fair value.”
10:41 a.m. : There will be no “family photo” between the leaders of the main left parties during the demonstrations: if Jean-Luc Mélenchon, Julien Bayou and Olivier Faure will perhaps meet in Paris, Fabien Roussel should parade in Lille.
10:37 : The CGT lists 255 meeting points announced throughout France today, 20 more than a year ago according to the confederal secretary of the union, Céline Verzeletti. A demonstration is notably planned in Paris between Place de la République and Place de la Nation, from 2:30 p.m. The call to demonstrate is co-signed by the CGT, the Unsa, the FSU and Solidaires, but not FO, only its Ile-de-France federation being associated with it. The CFDT organizes its own rally.
10:09 : The extension of the retirement age proposed by Emmanuel Macron before his re-election is, unsurprisingly, at the top of the concerns expressed by the general secretary of the FSU Benoît Teste this morning. He fears “a completely untenable schedule” which would see the reform completed this summer, and “padlocked consultations” where the unions would not be heard.
