It is said of the inhuman that it is the first Francophone Aboriginal genre film. Third fiction feature produced by Nish Media, which offered The dep and Rustic Oracle (directed by Sonia Bonspille Boileau), this first feature film by Jason Brennan as screenwriter and director is part of the movement of these Aboriginal artists who are finally reappropriating their stories.
That of the inhuman is directly inspired by a version of the Algonquin legend of the Wendigo, to which the filmmaker was introduced at the age of 10 around a fire in his community of Kitigan Zibi. This evil creature comes to haunt the minds of those who neglect the importance of community life by putting their personal interest first rather than that of others.

Samian is the headliner of the inhumana film by Jason Brennan.
At the dawn of his forties, Mathieu (Samian) is thus overtaken by a past that he had been trying until then to avoid by all means. This brilliant neurosurgeon, egocentric, jeopardizes his own health (he takes dope), his family life (extramarital affair) and even his own history, insofar as he keeps the links with his origins at a distance. When he returns home to Anishinabe territory to lay his father’s ashes on ancestral land, his pilgrimage turns into a nightmare.
Switching to its “horror” portion in the second part, the story of the inhuman borrows the appearance of a moral tale transposed into a contemporary reality. The drama is installed in a rather measured way in the first part, but then squarely borrows the effects of the horror film. Fans of the genre will appreciate, others will sometimes find the approach a bit overrated. That said, Samian carries this feature on his shoulders with grace. He is excellent.
