[Critique] “Gallery”, Anomaly | The duty

Gallerywhich will be considered as the second album of composer and pianist Nicolas Dupuis (after MetroPole Part I & II, 2018), makes you want to step outside and set foot in a nightclub. Passionate about grooveselectronics and synths, apostle of Herbie Hancock and Stevie Wonder (the effect talk box in the voice over Come Running to Me !), Dupuis rounded off the angles of his grooves and plunges both into jazzy house (from the opening on Moonthen on Jump), soul jazz (Memory Leaveswith the voice of Masego, Untouchable with that, hushed, of India Carney) and hip-hop (generations, with Canadian MC Shad). It flows naturally, even if the orchestration is sometimes a little too busy for the good of the songs. However, this does not overshadow the precise, often athletic playing of the pianist, remarkable on the instrumental titles concentrated in the first half of the album. Gallery promotes the work of the musician, who will be seen again in concert with his Anomalie Live Band at Club Soda on May 27.
