The launch of Guillaume Gardillou’s campaign to become deputy for the third constituency in the Dordogne surprised some. This former police officer, former chief of staff at the town hall of Limoges, currently director in a company with a career “Center-right” stands in the legislative elections of 12th and 19th June next as a candidate “for the presidential majority”. It’s written in large the campaign poster that he printed in more than 2,500 copies and “which will be deployed throughout the district on the weekend of May 1”. Except that, to date, the Republic in March has not invested any candidate.
No LaREM nomination to date
The steps are clear explains Jérôme Peyrat, La République en Marche referent in Dordogne in charge of the pole of elected representatives of the presidential majority in Dordogne. “the investiture is something very specific legally which allows you to register in the prefecture under a very specific label and today, no one in the Dordogne, in Polynesia or in the Ardennes can take advantage of the investiture of the presidential majority”. Discussions are ongoing, they should be announced during the week of May 2.
Guillaume Gardillou affirms that he will be a candidate regardless of the result of the nomination: “I am in the opposite approach, I propose my candidacy to the Périgourdins”. He cites the example of Thierry Solère, legislative candidate against Claude Guéant invested by the party in 2012. What he does not specify is that at the time, Thierry Solère was excluded from the UMP for three years for this candidacy outside the nails and for using the party logo during the campaign. Unlike Thierry Solère, Guillaume Gardillou is not listed in the Republic in March.
He lives in Milhac-de-Nontron for 10 years after a career in Paris and Limoges explains committing to a territory for “preserving a way of life” and to defend the interests of the Périgourdins. According to him, if he writes “for the presidential majority” on his poster it is to display the “method” that he intends to apply. “If I am elected I will work with the presidential majority, […] because it is by being in this majority that we will be able to influence things […]it is not by opposing and vociferating at the national assembly that we can weigh “.
A “non-event” for the current MP
Guillaume Gardillou wants to stand out from the parties even if he was inserted into the UMP to organize the primary of the right and the center in 2016, “I have a liberal streak” he recognizes and the desire to make themselves known. He considers that he is not in competition with the current deputy for the constituency, Jean-Pierre Cubertafon, which does not prevent him from scolding the elected modem “he has had a rich political career for several decades, I think that now we must look to the future in method and energy”.
For his part, Jean-Pierre Cubertafon considers this candidacy as “a non-event”. The elected modem belonging to the presidential majority is a candidate for the nomination but he says he respects the designation process. “We don’t improvise a candidate like that overnight, especially in a territory like the Nontronnais […] it is true that this poster can cause some trouble but it will quickly be restored and things will get back to normal very quickly”.
According to Jérôme Peyrat, this candidacy is not appropriate “It’s never smart to want to force things and to want to demonstrate, it’s even rather the mark of a form of weakness”.
