It had been awaited for years by cyclists in the Laval conurbation. The velodrome built at the foot of Espace Mayenne and delivered in 2021 will be inaugurated this Saturday, April 30. At the start of the day, the ribbon will be cut by Olivier Richefou, the president of the department and David Lappartient, President of the International Cycling Union. This Laval velodrome will henceforth be called “Francois Pervis Velodrome“, from the name of the seven-time Mayenne world champion in track cycling.
The first track competition in Laval
The afternoon will be marked by the organization of the first track cycling competition on this new velodrome. The Laval Cyclisme club organizes a regional round of the Huby Challenge. All clubs in France can participate with different races in the minimal, cadet, junior, senior and female categories.
The French team presents
There will be the exceptional participation of the cyclists of the French team. Sébastien Vigier, Rayan Helal and Florian Grengbo, the French team, bronze medalists in team sprint at the last Olympic Games in Tokyo. Sprinters Melvin Landerneau and Timmy Gillion will also be present.
Finally, icing on the cake, the arrival of the track rider Robert Förstemann, world team speed champion. Like François Pervis, the German has become a tandem pilot for the blind.
All these beautiful people will participate in a speed tournament, including one reserved for disabled sports on the approved 250-meter track.
Admission is free for all spectators who will have the opportunity to discover this beautiful equipment and very high level runners. The exams start at 2 p.m.
