Since the start of the war in Ukraine, 5.3 million Ukrainians have left their country, and 70,000 refugees have been received in France. Among them, 700 have been installed for a month on a ferry which anchors in the port of Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône).
A ferry in the port of Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône) has become a temporary refuge for hundreds of Ukrainians who have fled the war. For a month, the Mediterranean has remained at the quay in the Marseille city. “I spend my life on this bridge, there is a lot of sun, it’s very beautiful. I see the city, nature, and thanks to that, I forget my misfortunes and my worries a little”says a Ukrainian woman on the boat.
A total of 750 people are accommodated on board, the majority of them women. All left their homes and families in Ukraine. So, being together in the same boat has something reassuring. “It has become a big Ukrainian village in Marseille. Since they have everything on board, they feel good and protected there”welcomes Pierre-Antoine Villanova, Managing Director of Corsica Linea. On board, all the panels had to be translated and each space transformed. The bar has thus been converted into a nursery.
