An arms depot in a Russian village near the border with Ukraine was on fire Wednesday, the local governor said.
“According to preliminary information, an ammunition depot is on fire near the village of Staraya Nelidovka” about twenty kilometers from the Ukrainian border, said on Telegram the governor of the Russian region of Belgorod, Vyacheslav Gladkov.
According to the governor, the fire has been brought under control and there are no civilian casualties or damage to residential buildings.
The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.
For their part, the governors of the neighboring regions of Kursk and Voronezh, also close to the border with Ukraine, indicated that the anti-aircraft defense had gone into action during the night.
“There are no casualties or destruction,” Kursk Governor Roman Starovoit said on Telegram. According to the governor of the Voronezh region, Alexander Gusev, the anti-aircraft defense “successfully destroyed” a small reconnaissance drone, the source of which he did not specify.
Russia has repeatedly accused Ukrainian forces of carrying out strikes on Russian soil.
On Monday, a fire ravaged a fuel depot located in the Bryansk region, also neighboring Ukraine.
In early April, the governor of the Belgorod region, neighboring Bryansk, said that Ukrainian helicopters had made an incursion and hit a fuel depot.
