Three million French people move every year. The operation is likely to cost more, due to soaring fuel prices and cardboard packaging. In a few months, the bill has increased significantly.
Since the beginning of 2022, moving costs more: + 5% on average. In Paris, an owner is preparing to leave for La Rochelle (Charente-Maritime) in a truck. The cost of his trip flies away with the rise in the price of fuel. “It’s a move that should have cost around 2,800 euros including tax, and now it’s going to cost around 3,400, 3,500 euros”believes Alain Touitou, director of Déménagement Blanchard et Fils.
The higher bill is also explained by the rise in the price of raw materials, such as cardboard, an essential accessory during a move. “It represents a hell of a budget. We go up to around 160 euros in boxes, for a typical three-room apartment”, says a customer. Since the war in Ukraine, paper pulp has become scarce. In a specialized Parisian store, the price of cardboard has risen sharply. The increase should continue, and could impact the three million French people who move each year.
