The Washington Capitals could well start the playoffs without Alexander Ovechkin since the mystery remains unsolved around his upper body injury.
The captain of the American capital team was injured on Sunday when he tripped over goalkeeper Erik Kallgren’s stick after a breakaway. He fell heavily on the boards and left the game, which his team lost 4-3 in a shootout to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
“I feel like saying, ‘I hope so,’ but again, I don’t know,” Capitals head coach Peter Laviolette said Tuesday, according to the official National Hockey League website. (NHL), regarding Ovechkin’s presence in the lineup for the first playoff game.
“It depends on how things progress for him, so it’s day to day right now.”
“Ovi” was therefore absent from the game between his club and the New York Islanders on Tuesday night. This season, he has amassed 50 goals and 90 points in 77 games.
