On Sunday April 24, Marine Le Pen came out on top in the second round of the presidential election in more than 18,000 municipalities, mainly in rural areas. In the Loiret, Châtillon-sur-Loire has switched to the National Rally.

Life seems to pass quietly in Châtillon-sur-Loire (Loiret)a small town of 3,000 inhabitants. However, on Sunday April 24, the municipality tipped over and voted in majority for the National Rally (RN)during the second round of the presidential election. Two residents explain that it was Emmanuel Macron’s desire to push back the legal retirement age to 65 that motivated them to vote for Marine Le Pen.

In the municipality, 54% of voters chose the candidate of the RNagainst 46% for Emmanuel Macron. It’s the exact opposite of 2017. A gardener, who voted Marine Le Pen for the first time in 2022, talks about his “Fed up” of Emmanuel Macron, and a cost of living which he believes is too expensive, especially on fuel. In this rural town, the inhabitants are indeed very dependent on their cars, and they denounce a forgotten territory.
