After the cancellation in 2020 due to confinement, the 2021 edition of the Yaouank Breton music festival was announced under the best auspices with the return of the giant fest-noz which was to welcome several thousand people. But at the end of last week, a press release from the prefect of Ille-et-Vilaine called on the organizers of the Skeudenn Bro Roazhon association in Rennes. First, the department must apply a new health protocol due to an increase in the incidence rate which exceeds 50 cases of Covid-19 per 100,000 inhabitants. If the wearing of a mask becomes compulsory again in schools, the gauge of spectators in standing concerts increases to 75% from this Monday, November 8. The prefect recalls the strict application of barrier gestures even when one is vaccinated.
The two flagship concerts canceled
The organizers have therefore decided unanimously and in agreement with the direction of Liberty to cancel the two concerts planned Liberté room on Friday 19 November and Saturday 20 November. On Friday, several artists were to perform on stage and a big party was planned with a night of Breton dances. “We adopt a responsible attitude by canceling these two evenings“explains Glenn Jégou, the artistic director of Yaouank because the fest-noz is a great popular celebration with conviviality and permanent exchanges, which can be risky in times of health crisis. Disappointed organizers but who do not want to take any risk in a fragile context. The other festival proposals are maintained.
The association hopes to bounce back in 2022 by offering the Rennes public new festive events.
