Rugby star Pedrie Wannenburg dies in horrific car crash with his family

Passed by Castres and Oyonnax, Pedrie Wannenburg made the heyday of the French rugby championship. The 41-year-old South African died last Friday in a terrible car accident in Texas. His wife and two children were in the vehicle and his son is said to be in critical condition…

This is very sad news for all sports fans and rugby in particular. The former rugby player Pedrie Wannenburg left us last Friday in terrible circumstances. Former rugby star, the native of South Africa spent four great years in the French championship from 2012 to 2016, successively passing through the clubs of Castres and Oyonnax. A true star of his sport, he also has 20 caps with the South African national team and he was notably French champion during his time at Castres.

He then left for the United States where he has since resided and worked as a coach for the Austin team located in Texas, in Major League Rugby. Unfortunately, Pedrie Wannenburg was the victim of a terrible accident last Friday and the circumstances are particularly tragic. While he was with his wife and two children in their car, the former third row was violently hit by an individual pursued by the police. The collision resulted in the death of the former rugby player and the latter’s son is currently in critical condition. For their part, the South African’s wife and daughter are safe and sound.

A death which caused a wave of emotions in the world of rugby and in particular in the old clubs for which he was able to play. Castres Olympique issued a press release in tribute to Pedrie Wannenburg. “We have just learned of the tragic death in the United States in accidental conditions of our former player, South African international, Pedrie Wannenburg at the age of 41. Player at the CO from 2012 to 2014, he had notably been champion of France in 2013 by our side. The whole of Castres Olympique presents its sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.says the club.
