Quebec confirms the holding of a national funeral in tribute to Guy Lafleur, who died last Friday at the age of 70, “in accordance with the wishes expressed by the family”.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, May 3 from 11 a.m. at Marie-Reine-du-Monde Cathedral in Montreal, the Quebec government said in a statement issued on Sunday.
“This national funeral in honor of the memory of Mr. Guy Lafleur bears witness to all the admiration and all the love Quebecers have for him. He will have marked our history and our national culture forever. We will therefore pay him a deserved tribute, for the great man that he was, ”said the Premier of Quebec, François Legault, in the same press release.
The Quebec flag located on the central tower of the Parliament Building will also be flown at half-mast, from dawn to dusk, on Tuesday, May 3.
Guy Lafleur’s body will be laid in state in the Bell Center on Sunday 1er May, from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Monday, May 2, from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Premier of Quebec also said he was open to the idea of renaming Highway 50, in Outaouais, in honor of the “Blonde Demon”.
