Aid to Ukraine: a baseball signed by Zelensky at auction

A Major League Baseball ball signed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been auctioned so that part of the proceeds from the sale will go to a fund to help Ukraine.

The president had signed the object with his name in Ukrainian and English on it during a visit to New York in 2019, TMZ reported on Saturday.

The bullet comes with a signed letter from Ukraine’s former ambassador to the United Nations, Volodymyr Yelchenko. It is the latter who had donated the ball to Randy L. Kaplan who now puts it up for auction.

Mr. Kaplan has the distinction of collecting balls signed by leaders around the world. The first one he got was autographed by former US President Bill Clinton.

Described as “very good condition,” the ball insured by RR Auction is expected to fetch nearly US$15,000 at a minimum.

A bidder must be announced on May 11, but 14 offers have already been made for the object.
