Mom’s favorite flowers is the new collection of the eco-responsible Quebec brand Gaia & Dubos. Léonie Daigneault-Leclerc, designer and founder of the brand, pays tribute to her mother who died 15 years ago. “Both my parents died of cancer when I was a child. I was 8 when I lost my father and 14 when my mother died. It was while celebrating my 30th birthday this year that I realized that I had been living without my mother for more than half of my life. I really wanted to pay homage to him. »

The designer worked in collaboration with illustrator Joannie Houle, because she really likes the way she paints forget-me-nots, her mother’s favorite flowers. “It’s May, the forget-me-not season, and it was a good time for this new collection, which is being launched after a 15-month break, because I had my second child,” she explains.

The new spring collection is composed of a blouse and a camisole offered in cream white or with the soft print of forget-me-nots, and a floral wrap skirt. All these pieces are made in Quebec with certified organic cotton. “The pieces blend together. For example, you can wear the floral skirt and the blouse, which will create the illusion of a dress, and you can also put it on with the cream-colored camisole”, specifies the designer.

The latter always works with eco-responsible materials, such as Belgian linen, hemp and lyocell. Léonie Daigneault-Leclerc, who has a mastery of the arts in sustainable fashion, has always advocated the importance of local and eco-responsible manufacturing. “More than ever, consumers are becoming aware of the local economy and workforce, and this is having an impact on the way people consume. We produce in small quantities, we avoid waste and losses and we adjust production according to pre-sale orders. »

Where does the name of his company, Gaia & Dubos, come from? “Gaïa is the goddess of the planet, it is the Earth-Mother in Greek mythology, it symbolizes the protection of the planet and of humanity, the founding values of the brand. Dubos is for René Dubos, who is a French environmentalist of the XXand century that invented the slogan “Think global, act local”, explains Léonie Daigneault-Leclerc.

The presale begins this Friday on the brand’s website, at a reduced price.
