Stéphane Boyer, the runner-up to outgoing mayor Marc Demers, won on Sunday evening, and allowed the Mouvement des Lavallois to retain control of Laval city hall, after a three-way fight that turned out to be less tight than expected.
With 42% of the vote, a little before 10 p.m., he was firmly ahead of his two main opponents, Michel Trottier, leader of the Laval Party, who obtained 24.8% of the vote, and Sylvie Trottier, head of Action Laval, with 23.6% of the vote.
His victory was confirmed shortly before 9 p.m.
