Pompeii: discovery of the remains of a slave room

The mythical archaeological site of Pompeii never ceases to reveal its secrets. More than two thousand years after the eruption of Vesuvius which has eternally frozen the city, several professionals have just discovered a room of sixteen square meters. The bedroom is furnished with three beds woven from cords, which have been perfectly preserved. The tiny room was undoubtedly dedicated to the slaves of the time.

The remains of material found seem to suggest that the slaves housed in the room were in charge of the maintenance of a Roman chariot. “This new discovery shows that this is not only a very touristic place among the most visited in the world, but also always a place of archaeological discoveries”, says Dario Franceschini, the Italian Minister of Culture. This discovery contributes to the richness of the site which receives more than three million visitors per year.
