Shanghai, the economic capital of China, has been confined since the beginning of the month in the face of an upsurge in Covid-19 cases, and should remain so. The zero Covid strategy of the Chinese authorities is slowing down the country’s activity.
In Shanghai (China)the streets are empty, Tuesday, April 19. All shops, restaurants, factories and offices are closed. Many trucks are blocked at the entrance to the city due to the many roadblocks, and roads are closed.
Alone delivery people are allowed to circulate in Shanghai, if they are negative for Covid-19. They have to test daily, so many sleep below decks, so as not to return to their residence and take the risk to be infected with Covid-19. In the financial and business district, white-collar workers are working from home, but some traders or bankers have chosen to confine themselves to the office. According to some economists, China could enter a recession because of its zero Covid strategy.
