(Calgary) Edmonton will be the sole host of the 2022 World Junior Hockey Championship and the Hlinka Gretzky Cup will be held in Red Deer, Alta., this summer.

Hockey Canada announced Tuesday the new locations for these two major international events.
The World Junior Championship in Red Deer and Edmonton was canceled in December following outbreaks of COVID-19 among several teams at the tournament.
Rogers Place in Edmonton will once again host the tournament from August 9-20, in partnership with the NHL’s Edmonton Oilers.
Hockey Canada has revealed that results from December games will not carry over to this summer.
Players born in 2002 or later will remain eligible to represent their respective countries.
Austria, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States will make up Group A, while Canada, the Czech Republic, Finland, Latvia and Slovakia will form Group B.
The 2022 Hlinka Gretzky Cup will take place at the Peavey Mart Centrium in Red Deer, Alta., July 31-August 6 in partnership with the WHL’s Red Deer Rebels.
This is the first time that this men’s tournament bringing together the best players under the age of 18 has been organized in Canada by a single community.
The Canadian team will play its preliminary round matches in Group A against Slovakia, Sweden and Switzerland, while the Czech Republic, Finland, Germany and the United States will be in Group B.
Since its inception in 1991, the event has featured the best under-18 players from some of the biggest hockey nations in the world and has seen Canada win a record 22 gold medals.
