A prestigious victory for Geoffrey Bouchard. At 30, the AG2R-Citroën climber achieved his first professional success, raising his arms to San Martino di Castrozza, Monday April 18. The Frenchman finished the first stage of this Tour of the Alps five seconds ahead of Pello Bilbao (Bahrain-Victorious), who came second by settling the sprint of the peloton. Romain Bardet (Team DSM) finished on the third step of the podium.

In the breakaway since the start of the stage, the Dijonnais has had the luxury of arriving first at the top of the Passo Brocon, ranked second category, 50 kilometers from the finish. He then distanced himself from the leading group, to win alone, despite a slack at the end. Despite a list of victories so far since his pro debut at the age of 26, Bouchard had still won the best climber’s jerseys at the Vuelta in 2019 and the Giro in 2021. He will attack the second stage on Tuesday in the skin of the leader of the general classification.
