Quebec hospitals, faced with a crisis, have launched a vast recruitment campaign. French nurses are ready to experience this new adventure.
In Quebec and Montreal, its main city, lives the largest community of French expatriates outside Europe. In 2022, nurses arrived en masse. Here are ten of them, from all over France, they landed a week ago. They take their first steps in a downtown hospital. A day of workshops to become familiar with Canadian equipment and especially with vocabulary.
In France, these nurses did not feel appreciated at their fair value. “It is not possible to find yourself in the management of almost 15 patients for a single nurse”, underlines a French nurse. No difficulties for these experienced professionals, the French diploma is highly rated in Quebec. In Montreal, aided by the language, French nurses integrate quickly and forge strong ties with their colleagues. In Quebec now, half of the nurses are recruited abroad, the vast majority in France.
