More than 200 climate demonstrations took place on Saturday, November 6 across the planet to call for action in the face of climate change which threatens humanity. In France, several rallies were organized to put pressure on the negotiators gathered in Glasgow at COP26 and demand the “climate justice”.
Paris
Hundreds of people gathered in Place de l’Hotel de Ville, according to France Bleu Paris. At the call of several associations, unions and NGOs, Attac, Alternatiba, Greenpeace, Extinction Rebellion, L214, Oxfam, ATD Fourth World, Solidarity unions or the CGT, they came to demand actions against global warming. Faces of leaders from around the world, Joe Biden, Emmanuel Macron, Boris Johnson, Xi Jinping and Jair Bolsonaro, were displayed with images of fires and floods in the background. A banner “Inactive at COP26, dying in 2050” was hung on the Olympic rings erected in front of the Town Hall. Placards proclaimed “no nature, no future”, “climate justice, social justice, everything is linked”, “the COP26 washes greener” to denounce greenwashing or more simply a simple “SOS”.

Limoges
In Limoges (Haute-Vienne), a hundred demonstrators marched in the streets “against climate inaction” according to France Bleu Limousin. The collective Marche pour le climat en Haute-Vienne perceives COP 26 as “a meeting of co-owners” where “there will be no major decision on the scale of the planet”. But he called for “mobilizing across a country to change things” and become “a model followed by others”.

Toulouse
In Toulouse (Haute-Garonne), the climate demonstration brought together nearly 2,000 people, notably at the call of Alternatiba, Greenpeace Toulouse, Extinction Rebellion, FNE Midi-Pyrénées or even Youth For Climate, according to France Bleu Occitanie . Led by young Toulouse residents, the march took place behind a banner “Our future and also yours”. The procession, strongly colored in green, was quickly joined at the bottom of the Allées Jean Jaurès by a few dozen anti-health pass demonstrators, who have also marched on the boulevards every Saturday for several weeks. The demonstration ended around 5:30 p.m.

Reindeer
In Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine), several hundred people gathered on the François Mitterrand mall, to demand climate justice, according to France Bleu Armorique. Some demonstrators see COP26 as a demonstration allowing politicians and industrialists to do “greenwashing”. France 3 Bretagne for its part noted that some yellow vests and anti-fascists were present in the procession which split in two passing on a quay of the Vilaine, the walkers for the climate on one side, the yellow vests and the antifas on the other. The water cannon was pulled out. Tear gas canisters were also thrown on rue de l’Horloge. The antifas and some yellow vests left the March for the climate to face the police. A short-lived clash, according to France Bleu Armorique. The walk ended in peace.

Rouen
In Rouen (Seine-Maritime), the procession of citizens set off around 2 p.m. from Place de la Calende towards the cathedral, according to France Bleu Normandie. “Stop talking, make way for action”, chants a banner. “We feel climate change on a daily basis, it is much less cold, there is no more snow in winter,” said a protester.

Caen
In Caen (Calvados), the participants began their march for the climate around 2:45 p.m. from the banks of the Orne in the direction of the city center, according to France Bleu Normandie. “By financing coal, gas and oil, the banks kill”, one could read on a banner.

In Nîmes (Gard), nearly a thousand people marched through the streets and found themselves on the Charles de Gaulle esplanade, according to France Bleu Gard Lozère. “Save the polar bears, freeze the shareholders” chanted the protesters.

Mont-de-Marsan
In Mont-de-Marsan (Landes), several hundred citizens mobilized in front of the prefecture, according to France Bleu Gascogne. Among the slogans displayed on the signs, “Terrans without land you are nothing”, or “Armagnac at 40 °, yes, the ocean, no”.
