(Washington) Derick Brassard and Sean Couturier hit the target in the second period and the Philadelphia Flyers defeated the Washington Capitals 2-1 on Saturday night.
Brassard, who had just jumped onto the ice after receiving a penalty, completed the staging of Cam Atkinson and Justin Braun to score his second goal of the campaign.
Couturier extended the Flyers’ lead to 2-0 when he jumped on a return throw from Rasmus Ristolainen to steal the vigilance of goaltender Vitek Vanacek.
Martin Jones blocked 31 shots in front of the Flyers’ cage. Jones has not lost any of his three starts since the start of the season.
Brett Leason collected his second NHL goal, in his fourth game, after accepting a assist from Connor McMichael.
Vanacek ended the clash with 30 saves for the Capitals.
