The Government of Quebec announces the return to three report cards for elementary and secondary students as of the next school year.
The announcement came from Education Minister Jean-Francois Roberge on his Facebook page on Wednesday evening.
“The state of health emergency will soon end. We heard the need for parents to be informed on a more regular basis about the progress of their children. For this reason, we return to three bulletins. They will be weighted as usual and will be worth 20%, 20% and 60% respectively,” said Minister Roberge.
For the past two years and due to the upheavals linked to the COVID-19 pandemic, the report cards for the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 school years for primary and secondary students have been divided into two stages, rather than three. The weighting was 40% for the first bulletin and 60% for the second bulletin covering the periods from February to June.
“We consulted the partners of the network, both the parents, the directors, the experts and the unions. In light of these consultations, we had to find a balance,” explained Minister Roberge.
The objective is also to “reduce the stress of the students”, he explained.
“This is why, like this year, we intend to prioritize essential knowledge in 2022-2023, as well as the ministerial tests that correspond to them. The result of the pupil in his ministerial exam would be worth 10% of his final result (instead of 20%) and 20% in 4th and 5th secondary (instead of 50%)”, specified the Minister of Education. .
