The Quebec Opera Festival revealed on Wednesday the programming of its 12and edition to be held from July 24 to August 4.
Posted at 2:54 p.m.
The musical works programmed there are rooted in literature, from the tales of Andersen to the work of Margueritte Yourcenar. In the eyes of the artistic director, Jean-François Lapointe, “it is essential and even essential to use our francophone specificity to promote or make people discover lyrical art in Quebec”.
Among the expected performances, let’s mention the creation at the Palais Montcalm of Yourcenar – An island of passions, inspired by the life and work of the immortal writer. A musical score by Éric Champagne for six soloists, including Stéphanie Pothier, with a libretto by Hélène Dorion and Marie-Claire Blais. The staging will be designed by Angela Konrad. Under the direction of Dana Gilbert and the Violons du Roy orchestra.
And also…
We will also present the famous opera by Gounod on the Faust myth. “This is a major production that we haven’t seen on the stage of the Salle Louis-Fréchette at the Grand Théâtre for 25 years. And a disturbing work that looks at the human condition, ”says the organization. Jean-François Lapointe brought together director Jean-Romain Vesperini and soprano Anne-Catherine Gillet and bass Patrick Bolleire, who stand out on major European stages.
Jean-François Mailloux will set Jean-Philippe Lavoie’s libretto to music, based on three original tales by Hans Christian Andersen : The Princess with the Pea, The Little Match Girl and The Emperor’s New Clothes. Concerts, courses and free outdoor events are also planned.
