The trial of the author of the massacre of Old Quebec suspended by the COVID-19

The trial of the author of the massacre in Old Quebec was suspended on Wednesday after a second member of the jury contracted COVID-19.

A first juror was excluded from court on Tuesday morning, which led Judge Richard Grenier to ask that all members of the jury undergo a screening test.

The magistrate had however taken precautions to prevent the virus from disrupting the trial by selecting only properly vaccinated jurors. Work is suspended until next Tuesday. The jury must have at least ten members for the trial to continue.

The 26-year-old faces two charges of first degree murder and five charges of attempted murder. Two people — Suzanne Clermont and François Duchesne — perished by his hand, and five others were seriously injured.
