“He is still suffering in his ribs and as expected when his injury was announced, he needs four to six weeks. We are at three, so logically he is not able to play again in Barcelona, ”a close friend of Nadal told AFP.

The Spaniard has not even resumed training racket in hand. “He makes room, but nothing that hurts him and therefore obviously not with the racket”, specified this relative.

Nadal announced on March 22 that he would be out for four to six weeks due to a “crack in a rib” contracted in Indian Wells. After winning his semi-final against Carlos Alcaraz in a very hard fight, he lost in the final against Taylor Fritz and revealed his injury two days later.

He has therefore already missed the Masters 1000 in Miami, on hard courts, and Monte-Carlo, which opens the European season on clay.

The date of his return is not yet determined, but he should soon resume training on a court, according to his relative.

The next Masters 1000 is scheduled in Madrid (1er-May 8), before Rome (May 8-15) and Roland-Garros (May 22-June 5).
