A French family of Afghan origin has returned to France, after living in the shadow and terror of the Taliban regime for nearly three months. A story told by the France Télévisions teams.

In Montigny-lès-Metz, in Moselle, it is a rather special return from vacation for a family residing in the town. Originally from Afghanistan, they had gone on summer vacation to the country, before being stranded there due to the rise to power of the Taliban. Their return is noticed by many residents of the neighborhood. The father of the family says to himself “relieved”, he who had been hiding with relatives until the situation calmed down, while chaos reigned on the outskirts of Kabul.

The father, a former French army interpreter in Afghanistan, did not think he would stay so long, knowing that he was one of the targets of the Taliban regime: “a traitor, an infidel”, in his own words. The children were scared, stranded in Afghanistan rather than being at school. It was only on October 26 that the family learned that they would be repatriated to France. Now back in France, the members of the family want to find a normal life, in work and schooling.
