A new Israeli army operation took place in the Jenin camp on Sunday (April 10th), army officials announced in a brief message. The area is a stronghold of armed Palestinian factions, where the perpetrators of recent deadly attacks in Tel Aviv (Israel) originated.
Israeli forces, which limited access to the Jenin area this weekend, announced that they had seized weapons stolen in Israel during these operations, which in fact injured around ten people, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. For its part, the Palestinian news agency Wafa reported nine arrests in connection with this operation in the neighboring village of Yaabad, in the north of the West Bank, territory occupied since 1967 by Israel.
On Saturday, an Israeli army raid left one dead and “at least five” wounded. The Israeli army and border police carried out a raid giving rise to intense exchanges of fatal fire on a 25-year-old Palestinian, a member of the Islamic Jihad, the main Palestinian armed Islamist movement after Hamas.
“The State of Israel has gone on the offensive (…) and will do whatever is necessary to put an end to terrorism. We will settle accounts with all those who are directly or indirectly linked to the attacks” deadly attacks that have hit Israel in recent weeks, Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said on Sunday.
Elsewhere in the West Bank, near Bethlehem, a 40-year-old widow and mother of six who was heading way “suspicious” towards soldiers despite “warning shots”succumbed to his wounds inflicted by gunfire from Israeli soldiers, announced the army and the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
And in Hebron, in the southern West Bank, Israeli police say they shot dead a Palestinian woman who stabbed and injured “slightly” an officer in the center of this powder keg.
