The young woman, who joined the Poitou team last year, went on the attack less than two kilometers from the finish in this Ardennes classic which linked Maastricht to Valkenburg.
“I felt quite tired in the last 15 kilometers, I had to scrub”, confessed the winner of the day. “I have to thank my sporting director who encouraged me to attack when we found ourselves in eight-nine at the top of the Cauberg. I decided to go, it was all or nothing!”. “I had imagined living this at the time of the recognition of the course, I knew that it was the decisive moment of the race”, added Cavalli, 2018 Italian champion at the age of 20.
The Italian succeeds the winners of the Dutch Marianne Vos, who preferred to skip to tackle Paris-Roubaix Women at best next Saturday.
