At 5 p.m., the participation in the first round of the presidential election, Sunday April 10, stood at 65% at the national level, according to statistics from the Ministry of the Interior, down 4.4 points compared to the previous poll of 2017, where it had reached 69.4%. The five departments where the participation at 5 p.m. is the highest are: Dordogne, Aveyron, Gers, Haute-Loire and Pyréenés-Atlantiques. Conversely, the five territories where the participation rate is the lowest are: Corse-du-Sud, Essonne, Paris, Seine-Saint-Denis and Haute-Corse.
The five departments where turnout at 5 p.m. fell the most compared to the previous presidential election are Paris (-19.13%), Haute-Corse (-18.75%), Bas-Rhin (-18.15 %), Essonne (-17.79%) and Cantal (-15.26%). Conversely, it increased significantly in five departments compared to 2017: in Dordogne (+8.4%), in Landes (+8.27%), Ardennes (+8.2%), Lot (+7.57%) and the Loire (+4.56%).
The polling stations are open until 7 p.m., or even 8 p.m. in the big cities. Some 48.7 million voters are called upon to vote to decide between the 12 candidates for the presidency of the Republic.
