Night comes earlier and earlier in the winter, endangering the many cyclists on the roads. In Dijon (Côte-d’Or), these cyclists are made aware in the streets of the city about their own safety.

When winter approaches and the days get shorter, the dangers multiply for cyclists, who are very poorly equipped for night riding. For this, they must equip themselves correctly. In Dijon (Côte-d’Or), prevention is carried out with the general public, who cannot find a consensus around the equipment necessary for a cyclist to be seen and safe. Almost one in two cyclists does not have the necessary equipment to ride at night in the city.

The list of mandatory equipment for cycling is as follows, as Régis Servotte-Gairin, Principal Brigadier-Chief, points out: “We start with a white light at the front, with a reflecting device below, an orange reflecting device, in the rear wheel, a red light, and we must have reflective devices on the pedals.” No ticketing is planned for cyclists, but a major prevention campaign is in place, while trips by bicycle or scooter are increasing.
