Since the start of the war, at least 36,000 Ukrainian refugees have arrived in France. The 19/20 takes you, this evening, Saturday April 9, to Mouans-Sartoux near Nice where the town has welcomed nearly a hundred people. All demonstrate a strong desire to integrate.
The small town of Mouans-Sartoux (Alpes-Maritimes) displays its values. For the past month, more than a hundred Ukrainian refugees have started to rebuild themselves here. Women fled the war, left their parents or their husbands behind. Now they learn a new language and gradually find a smile. “I need to talk with people, to understand them and understand your culture”entrusts Dasha PavlovskaUkrainian refugee. She was welcomed into a family of Danish origin with whom she now shares her daily life.
Her daughter, Vlada, been admitted in college in 6th grade and quickly managed to get comfortable. “Everyone comes up to me and says ‘oh you’re Ukrainian, I want to be your friend’says the girl. “They are children who have an ease of integration which surprised me”, says Fabienne Dupuis, English teacher. Victoria, a Ukrainian living in Mouans-Sartoux for 20 years, interprets for the refugees. One of them, Maxim, tries to revive his production of films and comics. He wants to try to continue earning a living.
