The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) is investigating the fifth murder to occur on its territory since the beginning of the year.
A spokesperson for the SPVM, Manuel Couture, confirmed Saturday morning the death of the young woman who was stabbed Friday evening in the east of Montreal. The identity of the victim has not been revealed.
The police were called around 7 p.m. for a conflict between two people in an apartment on rue Aylwin, between rue Sherbrooke and rue Hochelaga, in the borough of Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve.
The victim, in his twenties, was allegedly assaulted with a knife at least once in the upper body, according to initial information from the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM).
When paramedics arrived, the woman was in critical condition and there were fears for her life while being transported to hospital.
Police arrested a 32-year-old man near the scene. He was transported to an investigation center where he will be met by investigators. The SPVM mentions that the suspect is known to the police.
They will analyze the crime scene with the assistance of forensic identification technicians in order to determine the circumstances surrounding this event and to establish the link between the victim and the suspect.
