Panthers come from behind to beat Sabers 4-3

Sam Bennett flashed the red light with 37.3 seconds left and saved the Florida Panthers a 4-3 win over the Buffalo Sabers on Friday.

Sam Reinhart and Claude Giroux each had a goal and an assist for the Panthers, who trailed 3-1 halfway through the game.

Patric Hornqvist also scored for the Panthers and Sergei Bobrovsky made 19 saves.

Jeff Skinner — with his 30and of the season — Mark Pysyk and Victor Olofsson hit the mark for the Sabres.

Dustin Tokarski stopped 39 shots in the loss.

Earlier in the day, the Sabers signed defenseman Owen Power, the 2021 NHL first overall pick, to a three-year contract.

Islanders win 2-1 over Hurricanes

The Islanders have lost only once in their last six meetings.

Kyle Palmieri scored with 14.1 seconds left in the third period as the New York Islanders beat the Carolina Hurricanes 2-1 on Friday.

Jean-Gabriel Pageau of the Islanders hit the mark in the middle period, before Vincent Trocheck’s equalizer at 19:03 in the third period.

Pageau has scored three goals in his last five games.

The winner Ilya Sorokin made 19 saves.

The Islanders have lost only once in their last six meetings.

Carolina dropped a third game in four outings. On Thursday, the club secured a playoff spot for the fourth year in a row.

Frederik Andersen blocked 19 shots for the Hurricanes, who got just one shot on goal in the second period.

Charlie Coyle plays heroes against the Lightning in overtime

Charlie Coyle scored the winning goal in overtime.

Charlie Coyle rattled the ropes 3:37 into overtime and the Boston Bruins prevailed 2-1 against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday.

Coyle pounced on a rebound to the right of Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy, headed down the center before beating the doorman with a wrist shot.

Jake DeBrusk scored the other goal for the Bruins, who posted an eighth victory in their last 11 meetings. Linus Ullmark stopped 28 shots.

Pierre-Édouard Bellemare was the lone scorer for the Lightning, which has not won in its last four outings. Jon Cooper’s squad slipped behind the Bruins in the standings and conceded third place in the Atlantic Division to them.

Vasilevskiy made 36 saves in the loss.

Robert Thomas offers victory to the Blues

Robert Thomas flashed the red light in overtime and the St. Louis Blues defeated the Minnesota Wild 4-3 on Friday.

Thomas beat Cam Talbot with a one-timer from the face-off circle using a throw-in from Vladimir Tarasenko.

The Blues rallied from a 3-1 deficit, which allowed them to edge out the Wild in the Central Division and virtually claim the ice advantage for the first round.

Brayden Schenn, Pavel Buchnevich and Justin Faulk have scored for the Blues, who are 6-0-1 in their last seven games. Ville Husso made 35 saves.

Kirill Kaprizov scored his 41and net of the season and came close to a team record belonging to Marian Gaborik (2007-08) and Eric Staal (2017-18).

Kevin Fiala and Jacob Middleton also hit the target for the Wild. Talbot blocked 24 shots in the loss.
