Have the vast majority of female victims of domestic violence come forward to law enforcement? This is what candidate LR claims in the presidential election.

Invited on RTL on Monday April 4, Valérie Pécresse affirmed that “85% of women who die under the blows of their partner are women who had filed a complaint”. With her president, “it must change for all women, their voice will be heard, and their rights will be defended”. Valérie Pécresse proposes, among other things, the establishment of a “specialized court for women victims of violence”.

If the question of feminicides and the dysfunctions of justice that sometimes accompany them is a real social issue, the figure put forward by Valérie Pécresse seems to him, very largely exaggerated. According to the latest study published in August 2021 by the Ministry of the Interior, 102 women died in 2020 under the blows of their companion, against 146 a year earlier. 35% of these women had already experienced violence.

Among them, 67% had reported them to the internal security forces by complaints, handrails or home interventions. And among these 67% who had reported the violence to the police, 75% had filed a complaint. Ultimately, 18% of the 102 victims had therefore filed a complaint previously. And not 85%, as Valérie Pécresse asserts.
