The government finally adopted the necessary decrees to launch calls for proposals concerning the Québec tramway. After two weeks of confrontation, the CAQ troops do not impose any conditions on the City.
“The City can therefore now launch its calls for proposals”, confirms a press release issued by the government.
Bruno Marchand will have free rein to do so: the shared street which set fire to the powder between the two levels of government, two weeks ago, no longer finds any challenge within the Council of Ministers.
Ditto for social acceptability: the government now “wants” it, without requiring it.
In a press briefing after the adoption of the decrees, the Ministers of Transport, François Bonnardel, and the Minister responsible for the Capitale-Nationale, Geneviève Guilbault, insisted on the importance of garnering the greatest possible support for the tramway, of which the estimated bill is close to four billion dollars.
“It is up to the mayor to show that we can do better,” insisted Mr. Bonnardel.
Quebec City Mayor Bruno Marchand hailed “extraordinary” news for Quebec City and its residents.
More details to come.
