A year after the accusations of Islamophobia within Sciences Po Grenoble, two people were arrested on Tuesday in Toulon and La Crau (Var), indicates France Bleu Provence, Wednesday April 6. They are suspected of having made hateful remarks online and will be summoned on December 2 before the Paris Criminal Court.

These arrests come within the framework of a conflict which had opposed two teachers of the IEP of Grenoble around the meaning of the term “Islamophobia”. A teacher, under police protection, had published on his website an exchange of emails with another teacher, a specialist in Islam. Target of threats from sympathizers of the extreme right, she had ended up, too, being placed under protection.

The two people arrested, a 60-year-old Toulonnais without a profession and a septuagenarian retiree from La Crau, are therefore suspected of having participated in this surge of online hatred. The Toulonnais admitted to having insulted the teacher and evoked her death. The retiree, for her part, admitted to having spoken of “cut his throat.”
