Presentation of the history, geology and archeology of the Dune du Pilat. The book helps to understand the formation of this site and its evolution under the effect of coastal erosion and wind. The great dune of Pilat: the mysteries of the largest dune in Europe by Jean-Marie Froidefond published by Sud Ouest

Jean-Marie Froidefond discovered the Dune du Pilat with his parents in the 1960s. They climbed the dune from the north side: “It was very pleasant, we liked it, we were young” remembers the enthusiast.

It was later, in 1970 when he graduated from higher education on the Dune du Pilat. He discovered ancient soils inside the dune, which outcrop on the ocean side, and which allowed him to trace the history of the region. He took the opportunity to study books or old maps. Through this book, Jean-Marie Froidefond wants to transmit “the beauty of the place which gives with a beautiful view of the ocean and a very beautiful view on the other side on the old forest… and the history of this dune , which started a long time ago,” he explains.
