“I think we have to move forward on sanctions” towards Russia, said outgoing President Emmanuel Macron on Monday April 4 on France Inter, after the discovery of the massacre of civilians in Boutcha, a Ukrainian city near the capital kyiv which was liberated by the withdrawal of Russian troops. In particular, he is in favor of sanctions on Russian coal and oil which are “particularly painful”.

The outgoing president, candidate for re-election, believes “unsustainable” images reported from Boutcha showing dead civilians in the streets. “There are very clear indications of war crimes, emphasizes the President of the Republic. We have indicated our availability to the Ukrainian authorities to assist them in the investigations they are carrying out.
