(Lac-Bouchette) A snowmobile ride off the marked trails took a tragic turn on Saturday evening in Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean.

A group of three snowmobilers were traveling along Route 155 in the small town of Lac-Bouchette when one of them was hit head-on by a pickup truck towing a trailer shortly after 9:15 p.m.
“According to initial information, the three snowmobilers who were traveling together wanted to cross the road. The first two carried out their maneuver, but unfortunately the third snowmobiler who was following behind was caught by a vehicle traveling in a northerly direction,” said Sergeant Marythé Bolduc, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ). .
“The death of the man in his fifties was unfortunately found at the scene,” she said.
The identity of the victim was not immediately released.
The driver of the van was not injured.
No criminal hypothesis has been retained to explain this collision, but an investigation by the SQ is underway to clarify the circumstances.
“A patrol officer specializing in collision investigation moved to the scene last night to determine the causes and circumstances,” said the spokesperson for the SQ.
The investigation is continuing.
