The Notre-Dame-des-Neiges cemetery will reopen on Sunday

The Notre-Dame-des-Neiges cemetery, which has drawn criticism from several people bereaved because it has been closed on Sunday since the start of the pandemic, will reopen its doors from next Sunday.

The announcement was posted on the site. “As of October 24, 2021, the Cemetery will welcome families of deceased persons and visitors on Sunday from 9 am to 12 noon”, we can read. The cemetery keeps the same opening hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Saturday.

Sunday opening hours will be extended from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on certain Catholic religious holidays as well as on Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.

The duty and other media had published reports in recent weeks with the testimonies of several bereaved people who would like to be able to visit the graves of their loved ones on Sunday, but prevented from accessing the site by the gates and fences.

One of them, Michael Musacchio, who lost his 26-year-old daughter last May, had been campaigning for several weeks to change things. Last Sunday, he demonstrated in front of the scene, sign in hand. The 56-year-old was planning a rally next Sunday but made the decision to cancel it when made aware of the cemetery’s announcement. “I would have liked it to be open all day, but it will do for now,” he told the To have to, adding that he will finally be able to rest from this story.
