An Islanders victory signed Barzal and Varlamov
Mathew Barzal had a goal and an assist, Semyon Varlamov stopped 27 shots en route to a 36and career shutout and the New York Islanders defeated the New York Rangers 3-0 on Friday.
Casey Cizikas and Matt Martin also hit the mark for the Islanders, who won a third straight game. The Islanders have also won seven of their last 10 meetings.
Varlamov, who had 10 shutouts last season including four against Rangers, added a second shutout to his record in 2021-22. He got a second start in as many nights for the first time in three seasons. He improved his season record to 9-13-2.
Igor Shesterkin stopped just 15 shots in front of the net for Rangers, who saw their winning streak cut to four. They lost only for the third time in 11 meetings.
Barzal scored at 2:47 of the third period, making it 3-0. He scored his 14and goal of the season thanks to a nice backhand feint. On the streak, Barzal collected a 300and NHL career point.

Lightning win 5-2 over Blackhawks

Ross Colton scored two goals and added an assist as Steven Stamkos and Brayden Point each had a goal and an assist to lead the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 5-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks 5-2. Friday night.
Andrei Vasilevskiy made 21 saves to improve his regular season career-best record to 13-0-0 against the Blackhawks. His only loss to the Blackhawks was in the 2015 Stanley Cup Finals series.
Brandon Hagel added an empty-net goal to complete the scoring against his former team.

Olofsson scores game-winning goal in Sabers 4-3 win over Predators

Victor Olofsson scored the game-winning goal with 5:35 left in the second period and the Buffalo Sabers picked up at least one point in their eighth straight game with a 4-3 win over the Nashville Predators on Friday.
Tage Thompson scored two goals, including his 30th of the season, while Peyton Krebs had a goal and an assist for the Sabers, who extended their streak (5-0-3). Craig Anderson stopped 22 shots.
Filip Forsberg, Jérémy Lauzon and Michael McCarron replied for the Predators, who squandered an opportunity to score valuable points in the Western Conference playoff race. Juuse Saros made 31 saves.
Olofsson moved the ropes on the power play during a Predators penalty for having too many players on the ice. He took advantage of a pass from Dylan Cozens and beat Saros with a one-timer from the short side.
Anderson has improved to 3-0-2 in his last five games. He made his best save with 4:20 to go in regulation time. He stopped a point-blank shot from Philip Tomasino.
Prior to the game, the Sabers unveiled a banner high above the KeyBank Center honoring longtime commentator Rick Jeanneret. The latter announced that he will retire at the end of what is his 51st season behind the microphone during Sabers games.

Senators beat Red Wings 5-2

Mathieu Joseph scored his first career hat trick.
Mathieu Joseph scored three third period goals for a first career hat trick, Mads Sogaard stopped 27 shots in his NHL debut and the Ottawa Senators defeated the Detroit Red Wings 5-2 on Friday.
Joseph’s three goals were his first with the Senators, who acquired him from the Tampa Bay Lightning before the trade deadline.
Josh Norris hit the target on the power play for the Senators, while Austin Watson scored on the penalty kill.
Sogaard, who was selected in the second round of the 2019 draft, was recalled from the American Hockey League earlier this week. He became the second Danish-born goaltender to play in the NHL, after Frederik Andersen.
Lucas Raymond scored both goals for the Red Wings, who have lost their last five games. Alex Nedeljkovic made 27 saves.
